Review by Rick:
"I added this set of GP5 grips to my hybrid bike as I am now riding much longer road distances. As time in the saddle lengthened, so did the strain on my wrists from my flat bar shifter grips with few options for different hand positions. The GP5 has changed my biking life - the grips provide no less than 6 very useable positions for me as I ride longer. Additionally, grabbing the vertical grips when pulling hard on an uphill grade really make it easier to keep momentum and scale the incline. Thanks, Ergon, for opening up the world of longer, more comfortable riding to me! Well done!"
Small or large? Which grip size do I need?
In order to help you maintain perfect control over your bike, your hands should not completely envelop the grip, which is why Ergon offers many grips in two size diameters – Small and Large.
The difference refers to the grip width (hand size), meaning a larger hand will have a more positive fit on a thicker grip, while a smaller hand is better fit to a smaller grip. For hand/glove sizes 6.5 to 8.5 we recommend Small, for 8.5 to 10.5 Large usually is better.
The Small and Large label refers to how grip range, simply how thick or thin the grip is. There is no difference in the length or ‘wing’ size between the Small and Large. The small grip is best for riders with small hands, those wearing thick padded gloves, and riders riding/racing technical mountain bike terrain.
The grip range or outer circumference of the round, inner part of the grip closest to levers is 92mm - Small and 102mm - Large. This is the part of the grip you grip with your thumb and pointer finger.
The large grip is best for riders with large hands, commuting, and city riding. We highly recommend visiting an Ergon dealer to get ‘hands on’ with the grip you are considering purchasing. Ultimately, grip size is a personal rider preference.
All grips suit handlebars with a 22.2mm outer diameter common to 99% of bicycles and are supplied as a pair (left and right).
Standard GP series grips require 130mm from the inner edge of the grip to the end of the handlebar.
