Dyson Bikes - We're Electric

While commuting to work on a bicycle is no new concept, for many people it is out of the question due to the distance, a lack of fitness or simply the sweat factor. For Naomi Dyson and her husband, David Metzke - all of the above was applicable when they started Dyson Bikes!

David also suffered from severe arthritis so riding a regular pushie was just out of the question...until a trip to China 2011! Both Naomi and Dave had seen that throughout Asia, Europe and the UK electric bikes were increasingly helping to break the non-cycling cycle – and making getting from A to B a much smoother process.

So, after seeing the rise in electric bikes during a business trip to China, and with a young family they wanted to spend more time with...the idea was born to develop their very own brand of electric bikes and create a lifestyle they had dreamed about. In 2013 Dyson Bikes was born.

“We wanted to ride e-bikes but the brands available were so expensive! We decided to create our own brand, cut out all the middlemen, agents and distributors and import the bikes ourselves in order to create e-bikes that were built to last but also at affordable prices," says Naomi.

"We love coming to work every day now - every time someone rides an e-bike for the first time, they smile! It's a great business to be in."

And our name: Dyson Bikes

The one question asked occasionally is - Can you use the name Dyson?

The answer is a resounding YES! as it is Naomi's surname.

The 'Dyson' Bikes brand and logo is a registered trademark in Australia (check it out here), along with our tag line 'We're Electric' (details here) - so there is definitely no reason the Dyson Bikes brand won't continue well into the future!

About Electric bikes

Electric Bikes, (or e-bikes as they are commonly called) are a genuine urban transport alternative.

An electric bike utilises a battery powered electric motor to assist the rider when required, like when accelerating, climbing hills or pedalling into head winds. Riding an electric bike makes you feel young again.

As with a regular bicycle, they are completely legal to ride without a drivers' licence (or any other licence for that matter), even on bike paths. And, don't forget the added benefit of free parking!

Contrary to popular belief, riding an electric bike does require some effort to cycle - you must pedal, in order for the assistance to start. It is a great, low impact alternative to riding a normal bike. Being low impact means you can ride the bike without placing the strain on your body that a normal bike can.

Far from being a 'lazy' choice - they are a great option for those who want to enjoy exercise and keep moving - without the pain or exhaustion some of us suffer when riding a regular bike. They are also a fabulous alternative to public transport commuting - you can ride to work and still arrive fresh (and without the lycra!).

If you haven't tried an electric bike for yourself, please call one of our fabulous dealers to arrange your test ride.

Make cycling fun again!
