Does Bosch produce its own eBikes?
Bosch does not manufacture a complete Electric Bike in 2020. As a provider of eBike systems, Bosch works together with renowned bicycle manufacturers that develop Pedelecs. More than 70 well-known bicycle brands globally and over 20 brands in Australia already use eBike systems with the "epowered by Bosch" quality seal.
Bosch - News
For even more flowDefining modern-day mobility: the Electric Bike is more than just another mode of transportation. It is a new way of living and moving - offering you ease and enjoyment in movement and allowing you to be active but at the same time completely relaxed. It also gives you the pleasure of knowing that your adventures are environmentally friendly. This applies equally whether you're in the city or on an off-road trail. eBiking epowered by Bosch - now with new products and functions that connect the eBiker with the digital world even more intelligently, takes eMountain biking to a new level and ensures greater safety and efficient mobility in the city.
The new Nyon paves the way for a fully connected eBiking experience: The on-board computer with the 3.2 inch, high-resolution colour display can be operated intuitively using the touchscreen and is connected to the smartphone with the eBike Connect app.
More torqueIncreased performance for Performance Line CX and Cargo Line: The drives will provide support with a maximum torque of up to 85 Nm from model year 2021 onwards.
For over a decade, the electric tailwind "epowered by Bosch" has put a smile on eBikers' faces. Bosch eBike Systems was founded in 2009 and since then has been developing products that enable a unique driving experience and make sustainable mobility even more convenient and safer. Thus, the model year 2020 has a lot to offer as well.
Evolution of the Performance Line CX
Performance Line CX
The Performance Line CX offers a unique eMTB experience: Compact, lightweight and with more power, it combines high-quality materials, an extremely powerful drive and high-end sensors. This brings eMountain biking on the trail to a whole new level. From model year 2021 with a torque of up to 85 Nm, new features in the motor control and a further development of eMTB mode - all as a software update. For a thrilling riding experience: more natural, intuitive and powerful and an absolute benchmark in its class.
Ready for every challenge: The advanced eMTB mode ensures even better control on the trail, without having to switch riding modes. The motor responds much more sensitively to the rider's effort, especially in low gears, enabling an extremely sensitive start.
More powerful than ever: Increased to 85 Nm, the torque has a noticeable effect on riding behaviour. It accelerates faster, particularly at low cadences, and makes uphill starts much easier. The eMountain biker has more power available for whenever it's needed.
Impressive performance on the trail: Extended Boost is the unrivalled function for negotiating exposed roots, steps and stones with ease, even uphill. This function enables you to manoeuvre with greater agility and ease on even the most technically demanding trails.
Maximum agilityExtraordinary sensitivity: Thanks to the multi-sensor concept that takes more than 1,000 measurements per second, the Drive Unit is characterised by an extremely sensitive response.
Natural riding dynamismPerfectly controlled support: The powerful 32-bit processor enables sensor signals to be processed at high speeds. Performance can be controlled precisely, offering eMountain bikers the best possible support in all riding situations.
Thermal stabilityFor extreme loads: The Drive Unit is extremely efficient and, thanks to the completely maintenance-free 16-pin BLDC electric motor featuring the latest bar winding, it is characterised by great thermal stability.
KioxKiox, the compact colour display for sporty electric bike riders, uses the eBike Connect smartphone app to connect eBikers with the digital world. As a result, riding and fitness data recorded by Kiox can be transferred to the eBike Connect online portal via the app. After the ride, activities can be conveniently evaluated using the smartphone or computer. The data is automatically synchronised between Kiox and the app via Bluetooth, and software updates can be downloaded to the on-board computer wirelessly.
New software protects against tuningTuning pedelecs is a risky business. Many people don't realise that using tuned eBikes on public roads may not only lead to technical problems and safety-related issues, but can also result in serious legal consequences. Awareness and prevention are important. Technological measures will also be taken to make manipulation more difficult in the future. For model year 2020, Bosch eBike Systems is launching software that recognises eBike tuning and consequently reduces support.
Lock – a smart complement to the mechanical lockAccording to police crime statistics about 800 bicycles are stolen in Germany every day. This is particularly annoying when the electric bike in question is a costly eBike. That makes it all the more important to take appropriate protective measures. A mechanical lock is indispensable. The new premium Lock function from Bosch eBike Systems now offers pedelec riders additional digital protection: The function enables motor support to be blocked by removing the on-board computer Kiox.
eSuspension – fully integrated electronic suspensionBosch eBike Systems has teamed up with FOX to offer eMountain bikers an electronically controllable suspension designed for maximum performance on the trail. FOX E-Live Valve can be easily controlled via the Kiox on-board computer. Using a sophisticated system of sensors, the E-Live Valve determines the conditions of the terrain 1,000 times per second and adjusts the electric bike fork and rear shock accordingly within fractions of a second. This means that the eMountain biker can always be sure of the ideal suspension setting and can concentrate fully on the trail.
How long does a Bosch e bike battery last?
The Bosch 400Wh, 500Wh and 625Wh PowerPacks used on Bosch powered Electric Bikes are quite advanced. They offer a great balance of range, reliability longevity compared to many other batteries.
Some people are concerned by the price of a replacement e-bike Lithium-ion battery, at $1,000 plus for a genuine replacement battery this is a valid concern, however it really shouldn't be.
Bosch warrant their batteries for 2-years or 500 charge cycles (whichever comes first). This doesn’t mean your battery will die after 2 years. Typically we find the battery is good for the life of the bike.
Think of it this way - if you typically get 50 kms of range per charge multiple this by 500 and that is equal to 25,000kms of riding.
Most riders cover around 1,000 - 2,500 kms per year, so that works out to 10 or more years of riding.
By the time your bike has travelled 25,000+ kilometres it will be getting pretty tired and it is probably better to upgrade rather than replace the battery.
After 500+ cycles the battery will still work, but any battery will age over time so it will start to lose capacity and the assisted range of the electric bike will be decreased.
